I made these two drawings to celebrate the upcoming new year of the Water Rabbit, 2023 after the past year of the Water Tiger, 2022.
I was born in the year on the hare and I have always found very interesting this particular animal from the calendar because it seems that depending on the location it’s considered a rabbit, a hare or a cat. And this is why I also decided to draw a water cat who will swim underwater with the hare. However, making a third drawing for a rabbit seemed pointless because a stretched rabbit will end up looking very similar to the hare.
It seems to me that the hare and the cat behave in a very similar way. They also have similar physical characteristics. Also, it is known that both animals despise water, but it looks that this year will be the exception to the rule.
I am sharing photos of the original drawings and some of the previous unfinished attempts.
These drawings were made with micron pens and black ink with brush on Japanese rice paper. 23×17.5cm each.

He realizado estos dos dibujos para celebrar la próxima llegada del año de la Liebre de Agua, luego del año pasado del Tigre de agua, para el que también hice un dibujo en su momento.
Yo nací en el año de la liebre, y algo que siempre me ha parecido curioso de este signo del horóscopo chino es que parece que dependiendo del lugar se entiende como conejo, liebre o gato. Por eso también quise dibujar un gato de agua nadando junto a la liebre. Sin embargo, un conejo estirado se vería muy parecido a la liebre, así que, en vez de tres, lo dejé solo en esos dos dibujos.
Y la verdad es que me parece que la liebre y el gato son animales que se comportan de forma parecida y que también tienen ciertos parecidos físicos. Además, se entiende que ambos animales se caracterizan por su desprecio al agua, pero parece que este año será la excepción.

Hice estos dibujos con rapidógrafos y tinta negra con pincel sobre papel de arroz japonés. 21.7x14cm
